Who are you?
What do you do?
Who knows me?
What words or phrases do others use to describe you and your business? Are these words or phrases different or the same no matter who is representing you and your business? Would your family say pretty much the same thing as your insurance broker?
Recently, I was going through some old boxes and came across some things from grammar school and pulled out an autograph book. Just about everyone commented saying I was sweet. Even today people say the same thing. I find it kind of humorous in a good way. How about you, what would they say today about you? We are our personality dichotomy.
People Buy You Not Your Product Or Service
People don’t buy a product or service, they buy you and what you represent. When it comes to your brand, it should make sense and easy to understand. You want everyone ultimately to walk away with the same impression of you and your business each time. What does your brand say about you?
Master at Creating Brand
Have you ever had a friend or an acquaintance who is a master at creating their brand? Most likely they are successful because people believe in them. Their brand suits them well. They are eager to meet new people and learn new things. Each time you meet someone you need to be the same person. Be genuine. This is not boring or a bad thing. People know and like you for you and your brand. People will be as excited about what you’re working on as much as they are about what they are currently working on. Know your brand and be genuine.
Purchasing Expectation Based on Brand
When you go shopping, whether it’s for a product or service chances are you have an expectation based on that brand. My three poodles require grooming on a regular basis. What I like about my groomer is each time my dogs are groomed they are consistent in their grooms. As you know poodle people are picky about how their poodles are groomed. This show the groomer is consistent and can deliver the same level of service each time. This grooming company is highly sought out grooming shop.
Your Brand is What Gives You Freedom
It doesn’t matter what type of business you are in you are in. You are in the business of building your brand. If you are not cultivating your brand/image, then you won’t have any control over what people might be saying about you or your brand. Your brand is your bread and butter which gives you the freedom to do the things you want to do in life.
Here are some tips to help you cultivate your brand:
Stay Credible
Deliver on what you promised. A brand is no go if it’s not credible. If you’re a pet sitting company that promises to send an email with pictures on each visit, then you must be sure that you hold to that promise.
Stay Consistent
Your brand/image needs to be consistent no matter who you meet. You need to be sending the same brand message. Your brand combines both your business message as well as your personal message. How do you want to be known?
Stay Focused
Stay focused on your message. Don’t try to be everything to everyone. Find ways to stand out as an expert in your field. You want to be the go-to person.
Sit down with your favorite beverage, journal or pen and paper and get clear with what your brand is and what you want it to be. Be sure it flows with your mission statement and take steps to ensure you are consistent on delivering your brand’s promise every time.
