Any time you start to build something you use tools — my husband services antique clocks. Perhaps you have come across antique clocks in your parents or grandparents home. He has a tool chest of tools to choose from to perform and complete his tasks to restore these family heirlooms. Just as in growing your business or starting your business you will want to make sure you have these items in your tool chest.

Here’s a sampling of tools to include in your Public Relations tool-chest:

Your Story

What makes you newsworthy and unique. What do you do or who you are or where you have been. What are the reasons you started your business? What makes you different. Something fun, funny or Unique. Perhaps you ride a motorcycle, or you won a school spelling bee. You have always loved to dance, and now you are spending fun time dancing. Spend a few hours brainstorming or writing in your journal your life story.

What You Know and Love

What topics are you uniquely qualified to write or present. Have you created an ebook on Pet Travel Tips or a Natural Disaster Plan for your clients and potential new clients? Write or speak about how you have helped other pet owners. Spread your knowledge of your love for animals. We are all unique and have gifts to share with the world.

Professional Photo Shoot

You need to have a professional photo shoot. These would be great for use on your website. Often better to have photos of you and your pets and or staff to have on your website. You want to look polished and professional. You want to stand out in the sea of pet sitters. It’s a great time to have fun, and a picture is worth a thousand words. You will want to have your clients and potential clients know who you are. They want to know and feel you are trustworthy.

30/60 second elevator speech.

Even if you feel or think it sounds sales-y, this is one tool that will get you remembered. Have a tag line so everyone will remember you. Be brief yet to the point. Fun and knowledgeable.
